On March 7, at the Geneva headquarters in Switzerland, the defense session of the report of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was held. According to Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi, at this session, Vietnam received more than 30 comments from members of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and relevant parties. This shows that after 10 years of ratifying and implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Vietnam has achieved important results in all aspects of ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities according to the provisions of the Convention, including institution building, policy development, action programs and plan issuance. Vietnam has also proven itself to be a model of welfare for persons with disabilities at the regional and social levels, after successfully achieving the Millennium Development Goals and poverty reduction. Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi said that Vietnam hopes to receive technical support from the UN Committee of Experts and development partners to continue implementing actions towards the comprehensive development of persons with disabilities. Through this, Vietnam aims to enhance comprehensive development standards for persons with disabilities, improve policies and laws, and enhance the capacity of civil servants and public employees in this field, the Deputy Minister explained. Vietnam also calls on the United Nations, countries and development partners to increase support for the transfer of new technologies and pay attention to them so that persons with disabilities in Vietnam can have easier access to developments in the fields of health, education, transportation, sports, culture, information technology and artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, the Deputy Minister proposed cooperation with the international community to address difficulties faced by persons with disabilities due to global issues such as climate change, migration and digital transformation.
